session 4

In this session we looked at the general issue of developing professional practice with new technology

there were five key issues which we considered in a kind of jigsaw activity:

  • A: assumptions about change?
  • B: case study (positive)
  • C: case study (problematic)
  • E: models of CPD
  • F: purposes for using ICT

The readings we used are included in the library page.

We then moved towards the idea of the assignment (this is linked here).

This could be an action oriented project based around the planning of a CPD event in the widest sense of the word, if this was built around an CPD days then, some of the things we talked about, such an event should allow for differentiation, should be pedagogical focused, should give participants an opportunity to find their own way into the technology, should be planned in advance and have a follow through.

For next time:

  • start asking colleagues about their experiences / stance regarding CPD, technology and get feedback on anything you have organised, you are doing, or you may want to feed some of this into your assignment.
  • start the first part of the assignment around the themes of changes CPD and models of CPD, if this feels a bit daunting or a bit early then simply do a review of one of the articles in the library (some you will need your edxxx code for). For example if this is referring to a particular case then consider: the context; what is being said about CPD; what were the opportunities /constraints within the CPD; what were the opportunities and constraints offered by the technology (if relevant); what did you learn about this for your own work.
  • Please blog what you have done by 7 May (this will help me in planning the next session) here, this is a less formal use of the blog than the case study last time so feel free to use the blog to post questions and work in progress http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/itresearch/
