Workshops - Trainees will choose two different workshops to attend from the drop-down list below. Please note that places are allocated on a 'first-come, first-served basis' as there is a room capacity for each workshop.

The role of research and intellectual curiosity in education’ work – led by Jen Rowan-Lancaster, CTE.

Jen’s session examines why educational research is an imperative aspect of your teaching career. As a Warwick teacher intellectual curiosity will always be part of your teacher make-up and this session will support you to explore what this means for you beyond the PGCE whether that’s completing your MA at CTE or through engagement with CPD opportunities in school.
Lewis is the Director of an established teaching agency. He and his colleagues are available to offer advice on all things related to progressing from university into employment.

Key areas to cover:
- How to do stand out at a teacher job interview.
- What a head teacher is looking for in your job application form.
- How to create an attractive CV.
- How to know which school is right for you.
- How to find a good supply agency if you need one.
- Career paths outside of the classroom.

The role of the Subject Lead with Randeep Nagra, Cannon Park Primary School.
We'll explore what the role entails, the skills you'll need, and how to successfully navigate this role. You'll learn about different strategies for enhancing your subject area and ways to support and inspire your colleagues.

Setting up your first classroom with Anna Donnelly – CTE

- Consider what you already know about classroom / learning spaces organisational decisions.
- Think about research linked to this area.
- Make links from across the course to support your decisions when designing your ‘new’ classroom(s).
- Think about your new school policy (if there is one!) on classroom organisation / learning spaces, layout and any non-negotiables.

The role of the SENDCo, Barrs Hill School
Officially, is to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the school's SEND policy. In reality, it is so much more!
This is a truly unique role that combines two of the more traditional pathways in education: pastoral and faculty leadership. It is one that places young people and their families at the heart of everything you do, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. At the same time, you will hold a key strategic role in shaping school policy and working with the Local Authority. The life of a SENDCo is never dull! I look forward to meeting you if you would like to find out more about this exciting and fulfilling career in teaching.

The role of the DSL with Sarah Megeney, Finham Park School

I have been in the teaching profession for 30 years working as a teacher, head of department, teacher advisor, National Strategy Consultant and now as a Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). During my session I will share my experience of being a DSL, what it means to be a DSL, why you might want to be one and the incredible difference this role can make to both children and families. If you want to make a difference to children’s futures this could be the route for you.
The role of the Subject Lead with Dan Hawksley, Kineton School

With over 20 years of teaching experience, I’ve taken on a variety of subject and whole-school leadership roles — from KS3 Coordinator to Head of Department. This session is designed to give early career teachers an insight into what these roles involve, the key skills that support success, and the common challenges you might face as you take on more responsibility. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of the different subject leadership pathways and how you can start preparing now to step into them with confidence.

What does it mean to be a senior leader? Why would you want to be one? What are the possible routes? How do you nurture and develop your skills? Why is ethical leadership important? What is the role of culture, vision and ethos to a school?

The role of pastoral lead- building a knowledge base to become the most effective pastoral lead in a variety of settings with Emma Wilkes.

I qualified as a teacher of geography and, through various twists and turns (including head of geography and senior leadership), I recently took my pastoral experience to work in children’s services at a large metropolitan council. Working as a pastoral lead in a large “All-through Academy” (aged 3 to 18) for nearly a decade, I developed my skills and experience along the way. In the workshop, we will consider the different types of pastoral roles ‘out there’ and the ways it’s possible to gain a wealth of experience in early career stages to stand you in good stead for senior pastoral roles and beyond.
