Online Mentor Training

This course is for all mentors in the Warwick University Partnership who will be supporting a PGCE trainee.

The PGCE qualification with Warwick is a ten month programme combining academic studies at Master's level with professional practice to achieve PGCE with recommendation for QTS*.

This online course explores the principles and best practices of mentoring with Warwick and the procedures and processes required to meet the expectations of the professional placement for all age phases and routes.

On the successful completion of this training you will receive a certificate which you will need to submit to us as evidence of your suitability for the role of mentor.

This glossary of terms contains University of Warwick and Centre for Teacher Education (CTE) jargon, acronyms and terms that you may encounter during the course. It will be updated regularly.

*The PGCEi qualification does not award QTS.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the Purpose and Principles of mentoring in ITT with Warwick
  2. Understand the Expectations of the role of the mentor
  3. Understand the Procedures and Processes for each age phase with Warwick
  4. Engage with an 'Instructional Coaching' approach to mentoring
  5. Consider Practical Strategies to facilitate a trainee’s learning experience
  6. Recognise how you are meeting the UK National Standards for Mentoring
