Decolonising the curriculum and radical pedagogies

Presenter: Dr Alison Morgan.

The aim of this session is to discuss the current educational landscape in relation to the drive to decolonise the curriculum in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd in 2020 and the challenges faced by teachers in discussing politically sensitive topics in the classroom. Through consideration of the experiences of students of colour, this session introduces ways in which radical pedagogies can empower both students and teachers to question and critically challenge not only the curriculum but also wider society in order to ensure the continuation of democratic norms.
