What is Go React

It is an interactive cloud-based platform for feedback, grading, and critiquing of student video assignments.

Tutors create the video assignments. Students upload or record their video submissions. Tutors and/or peers then leave time-coded text, video, or audio feedback. Assignments are graded using rubrics or points. Reports allow tutors to track and measure student progress.

1.Logging in

You will receive a join link or email from your instructor. Once you do, follow the steps below to create an account.

Join Links

Join links are unique to each course and look something like this:
https://app.goreact.eu/join/f99d0cfe-d38d-4b45-9328-4189de86b.

Open the link or click the "Accept Invitation" button in your email.
Click "Create Account."
Confirm the course name and instructor. If these are correct, click Continue. If they are incorrect, do not proceed with registration. Contact your instructor and ask them for the correct join link.
After confirming the course and instructor names above, you will receive an email confirmation and will then be prompted to enter the verification code found in that email. Enter the code and follow the prompts to finish creating your account.

Note

If you do not receive an email confirmation, check your spam folder - the email may have been filtered there. If it's not there either, you may have entered your email address incorrectly. Try going back in your browser to confirm that you entered the correct address.
You will now see the screen below. Click on "Enter Access Code" (you should already have this), and click "Submit."

Now you are set up with a GoReact account.

1.Logging in

Firstly navigate to GoReact: https://app.goreact.eu/dashboard/

Log in to by clicking the Login button at the top right corner of the GoReact homepage.
Enter your email address and password, then click Login.

If you are having difficulty logging in, you can reset your password by using the "Forgot Password" link at the bottom of the login page. The password reset email can sometimes be filtered into your Spam folder, so be sure to check there as well as your Inbox!

2.Recording videos

Recording a video in GoReact is very simple.

Firstly navigate to the assignment you need and click "Start Assignment."

Give your video a title using the CTE naming convention (e.g recording_phase_subject e.g. 22.12.22_primary_maths) and click "Continue."

Click "Continue to Recorder."

You may see the Equipment Check window. Once it passes, click "Continue." If your equipment check fails, see the Enabling your camera and microphone guide.

Once you are on the recording screen, click "Record."

Click "Finish" when you are done. Please note the maximum recording length is 90 minutes but you should follow any guidance you have been given by CTE staff for the length of your recording.

Depending on the assignment type and settings, you have a few options here. You can "Post" the video, "Delete" the video, or Trim the video.

Once you post your video you will see it on the dashboard and your teacher will be able to review it and provide feedback.

2.Setting up an assignment

To create an assignment:

Click the "Create Assignment" button at the top of the assignment list.
Select whether you are creating a new assignment from scratch or will be copying an assignment template from your library. (See our Library - Assignment TemplatesLink opens in a new window guide for more information on using templates.)
Type a name for the assignment (required).
Select an assignment type (defaults to Standard).
Select any additional assignment settings.
Click the "Create Assignment" button.

3.Sharing videos

Direct sharing is not possible, but videos can be downloaded as follows:

Click the thumbnail of your video to enter the playback screen.
Then, click the "Download" button in the upper right-hand corner.

In the following cases, downloading videos is not permitted:

Your organization has blocked downloads.
The video is a YouTube video.
You are not listed as a presenter on the video.
The assignment has the single attempt setting enabled.

3.Viewing and adding comments

To give feedback:

Enter the playback screen by clicking the video's thumbnail on the dashboard.
Choose the type of feedback you want to give by selecting it from the Feedback Toolbar at the bottom of the feedback panel. (Text comments are selected by default.)
Follow the steps for your preferred feedback type:
1. A Text Comment - Begin typing in the comment box in the lower right (the video will pause automatically). The comment will be saved to the appropriate spot on the timeline when you hit "Enter."
2. B Video Comment - Choose how you want to add your video comment by clicking "Video," "Upload," "YouTube," or "Library." Then submit your selected video type.
3. C Audio Comment - Record your comments and click "Finish" when you are done.
4. D Markers - Click the appropriate colored box at the bottom of the feedback panel for the marker you want to use.
5. E End Note - End Notes are longer, final comments that allow you to summarize your observations. You can enter up to 2,000 characters. They will appear at the end of the comment timeline.
After you finish leaving feedback, click "Back" in the upper right-hand corner to exit the video. Your feedback is automatically saved.

Read Receipts

Once feedback has been left on any video you can easily see who has viewed that feedback. Hover over or click on a feedback entry and you'll see an eye icon . Click the eye to see who has viewed that feedback and when.

4.Release feedback

By default, feedback and grades are available to students as soon as they are entered. If you want to hide feedback and grades on an assignment, just disable the "Show feedback & grades" option at the top right. With this option disabled, students can still submit and critique videos, but they won't see any feedback (comments, markers, etc.) or grades (including rubrics).

With the "Show feedback & grades" option enabled, students will be able to see feedback (according to the assignment privacy settings) and grades (on their submission only).

4.Reviewing feedback

To review feedback left on your video do the following:

Play the video by clicking the thumbnail. The feedback panel will show to the right of the video.
Each comment will have a timestamp that corresponds with the video. During playback, these comments will display below the video.
If you want to review a specific comment, click the applicable comment in the feedback panel on the right. The video will start playing 5 seconds before that comment was made.
To reply to a comment, hover over it, and click the "Reply" button.
To review any rubrics, click the "Rubrics" tab at the top of the feedback panel.
If there are multiple rubrics, you can find them in the drop-down menu at the top.

5.Quick set-up

Background Blur

The background blur feature is very useful if filming in a classroom setting where children are present. The obvious benefit is that it eliminates the need to obtain parental consent before filming can take place.

NB. This feature only works in Chrome and Edge.

From the Recording screen, click on the Media Settings button at the bottom right.
To the right of your selected camera, click the Blur Background button.
To turn the background blur off, click the Blur Background button again.

Permission levels

User roles

User roles in GoReact determine permission levels and accessibility of all content. Following are the roles we use and the level of access each one permits:

Owner: Owner of an account or course. All administrative rights granted within the account or course. Can create, view, and manage content and users within the account or course.
Admin: All administrative rights within a group, generally reserved for organization administrators. Organization admins can create, view, and manage content and users in any account or group within the organization.
Instructor: Administrative rights within a course. Can create, view, and manage content and users within the course. (NOTE: If an instructor is invited into another instructor's Account, they can also create and manage all content and users within that account).
Reviewer: This role is typically used for Teaching Assistants. Can only view, critique, and evaluate all videos in a course. Cannot record sessions or manage content or users.
Presenter: This is the Student role. Can record, upload, and view their own videos. Depending on assignment settings, can view peers' videos and provide feedback on them.

Using 'markers'

Markers are customizable, color-coded labels that make giving feedback faster and easier. Although useful, they should not be wholly relied upon and constructive, written feedback will always be required.

How to create a 'Marker set'

In the assignment settings, click the "+Marker Set" button, then select the collection these markers will belong to then follow the steps below:

Add a title
Choose a colour for each icon
Name your marker
You can change marker abbreviation or stick to the default first two letters of the word as the abbreviation.
Select the + once you are happy and repeat the process until you have all of the markers you need.
Re-order the marks as required and then hit "Save" when you're ready.

FAQs

How do I know if my instructor can see my video?

If you can see the thumbnail of your video on the dashboard and can play the video as well, then your instructor will be able to review your video and provide feedback. If your instructor isn't seeing it, please try playing the video yourself. If it doesn't work for you, it won't work for them either and you may need to resubmit your video.

Who can see the comments on my video?

By default, GoReact comments are private. If your instructor wants you to see all comments, they will need to enable the "Open Peer Review" setting on the assignment.

How do I move my video to a different assignment?

To move your video to a different assignment, click the three dots on the right-hand side of the video, and select "Edit". Below "Move Submission to Another Assignment," choose the new assignment, and then click "Save." Please note: you can only transfer videos between assignments with the same assignment type that are also within the same course.

Can I share my video with someone outside of GoReact?

It isn't possible to share videos with someone outside of GoReact, but you can download your video (without feedback) by clicking the "Download" button in the upper right-hand corner of the playback screen.

Why can't I see my peers' videos?

By default, GoReact videos submitted by your peers are private and are not visible to you. If your instructor wants you to review your peer's videos, they will need to enable either "Open Peer Review" or "Closed Peer Review" on the assignment.

How long will I have access to my videos?

You will have access to your courses and videos for five years past the end date of the course, unless your instructor deletes your course or your LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) expires the course sooner.

Why is it saying I am out of time and can't record?

If you are getting an error message that says the account is out of time, you will need to contact your instructor, who can then contact Customer Support to resolve the situation.
