Current trends in education and technology

This was a lunchtime presentation given by Audrey Watters on the top educational trends at Coventry University as part of the West Midlands ALT group. Further information about the talk is available here:

http://dmll.org.uk/2017/03/visiting-fellow-audrey-watters/

Essentially the top educational trends are not about technology at all; they include:

  • Wishful thinking
  • The politics of educational technology
  • The business of educational technology
  • Free and open
  • For profit HE
  • The 'new economy'
  • Credentialling
  • Data insecurity (this links with a lot of what was said at the UCISA event back in March 2017)

She also mentioned:

  • The ideology of Neil Sullivan (although I'm struggling to find a reference to him)
  • Personalisation (playlists for learning)
  • Individualism

This blog post talks more about what Audrey discussed:
