We have acted on your feedback
We have worked together to implement some real improvements to your teaching and learning experience
We listen very carefully to all student feedback from both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The examples below show a large number of important changes that have been implemented as a direct result of your feedback and are a testament to both student and staff dedication to provide the best education possible.
Teaching
You said...
it was difficult to learn online in the first week of the MSc pre-sessional Maths and Statistics course and then switch to in-person teaching in the second week.
So we...
have decided to teach all the pre-sessional classes in-person next year.
You said...
you are inspired and engaged by lectures and classes which are stimulating, interactive and innovative.
So we...
introduced a new Teaching and Learning seminar series for staff to encourage innovation in teaching and share best practice, including sessions on using Forums and Turning point to increase participation and engagement. This generated further ideas for application in departmental teaching practices which are being taken forward by a group of colleagues.
You said...
you wanted more flexibility with regard to the choice of option modules in year two of the MRes/PhD programme.
So we...
remodelled the second year of the MRes/PhD programme to give students more flexibility with regard to option modules they wish to follow, including being able to take modules from other departments as part of the requirements for the MRes.
Engagement
You said...
you wanted more opportunities to discuss your work with other students.
So we...
created Moodle study groups on the MSc modules in 2021/22.
You said...
you would like the sense of community for Economics students to be stronger.
So we...
have opened new study and social spaces for both UG and PG students respectively and have worked hard to bring together students in innovative ways such as campus games, sports events and quizzes. We developed wall visuals with inspirational quotes chosen by you to enhance the look and feel of the places even further. The return of in person lectures has been warmly welcomed by students.
Assessment
You said...
there are improvements to be made to assessment and feedback on the MRes programme.
So we...
are reintroducing in-person class tests from the 2022/23 academic year. The average mark on class tests will also be provided as generic feedback. We are making sure all feedback is returned by the University's 20 day marking deadline.
You said...
there should be subject specific mock exams to allow practice in exam conditions and learn the technical skills for online exams.
So we...
organised mock exams for the MSc core modules. We provided feedback on any mistakes to help students learn what to do in their final exams, and also developed an Exam Resources website with recorded videos and written guidance about taking online exams.
You said...
you wanted prompt feedback on your mitigating circumstances submissions.
So we...
scheduled a panel for the MSc January exams in February rather than June. This has allowed us to communicate panel recommendations at the same time as the provisional exam results were released. We have also implemented a new process for managing technical mitigation for online exams in the MSc programmes, with the aim of simplifying the procedure for students.
Dissertation
You said...
Student representatives proposed an amendment to the assessment methods for the MSc dissertation module to reduce the weight of the proposal from 20% to 10%.
So we...
agreed to implement this change in 2022/23.
You said...
you would like more support in planning your MRes dissertation and more information about the required standard for the dissertation.
So we...
We organised a dissertation workshop where we provided more information about the MRes dissertation and where the previous cohort of MRes students shared their experience of the MRes dissertation with current students.
Organisation
You said...
that you liked having a wide variety of optional modules to choose from.
So we...
optimised the timetable to ensure there have been no clashes between Economics PGT modules.
You said...
a well organised course was important.
So we...
created new roles in the Postgraduate Office to facilitate this: an Assistant Programme Manager (high level administrative support for the PGT programmes) and a PGT Programmes Coordinator (dedicated administrative support for the MRes teaching programme).
You said...
it can be difficult to navigate all the different webpages that Warwick uses.
So we...
redesigned the Current Students Page to make information easier to find and created an information carousel to communicate key messages on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.
Resources
You said...
you would like more resources to prepare for the MSc pre-sessional Maths and Statistics course.
So we...
introduced the Refresher Mathematics for Economics Moodle course to allow you to revise some basic mathematical concepts before arriving at Warwick.
Skills Development
You said...
you valued the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills into practical research projects.
So we...
have introduced the Warwick Internship Scheme for Economists (WISE) which provides opportunities for UG and PGT students to engage in current research taking place in the Department. In Term 1 of 2021/22 we made 12 projects available to students.
You said...
it would be useful to have more career talks that were relevant to the Economics discipline.
So we...
organised additional Careers in Economics lectures. We also created a new MSc Team to advertise Careers and Employability opportunities.
