    Academic Week 1
  • Vice-Chancellor’s Welcome Address

    The Vice-Chancellor invites all students to a formal welcome address during Week One to mark your arrival at Warwick. This will provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet other students and really begin to understand what it means to be a student at Warwick.

  • Department Registration for late starters

    You will formally register with the Department and also collect your academic resource pack and Question Time ticket. Your ticket will gain you entry into the Question Time event and drinks reception. This session is only for late starters.

  • Director of Undergraduate Studies Welcome to students on L100 Economics and L116 Economics & Industrial Organisation

    During this talk, the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Elizabeth Jones, will guide you through a variety of issues surrounding your degree course and studies. You will be presented with what you will need to do next and introduced to timetabling, core and optional module choices, seminar groups, personal tutoring, degree regulations, contact points, assessment and feedback, and absences.

    During this talk, the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Elizabeth Jones, will guide you through a variety of issues surrounding your degree course and studies. You will be presented with what you will need to do next and introduced to timetabling, core and optional module choices, seminar groups, personal tutoring, degree regulations, contact points, assessment and feedback, and absences.

    Pop along to our drop-in session to ask any questions you may have about your course or induction week. Our friendly staff will be here to help answer your queries.

  • Economics Question Time

    "Question Time" is the flagship induction event hosted by the Department in conjunction with Politics. Very similar in format to the popular BBC television show, this will be an excellent opportunity for you to engage with politicians, policy makers and academics on this year’s hot topic – 'Globalisation and Anti-globalisation'.
    Please make sure you arrive promptly at the Butterworth Hall for 17:45 and bring your ticket to gain entry to this event.

    Let the conversation continue at the drinks reception hosted by the Departments of Economics and Politics.

  • Optional Modules Session

    This session will provide you with some important information that you should consider when choosing your optional modules and how to find out which modules you can and cannot take. We will cover unusual options, changing your options, managing clashes and other key issues. You will be told about the modules that you can take within the Economics Department, as well as the external options, e.g. from WBS, languages, and you will find out how to register correctly for these modules.

  • Introduction to EC104 The World Economy: History & Theory and the Library

    This is a brief introduction to one of your core modules EC104 The World Economy: History and Theory. Teaching for all EC100 coded modules will commence in week 2. Your personal lecture timetable will be available via Start.Warwick on the day after you have registered your modules. The Economics Librarian, Helen Riley will also give a brief introduction to the facilities offered by the library for the second part of this session.

  • Introduction to PO107 Introduction to Politics

    Introduction to Politics gives a broad overview of the academic analysis of politics. Rather than merely listing political institutions, their powers and limits, it focuses on understanding core concepts of comparative political science and political theory, and then applies those to political processes, institutions, ideologies, and the nature of political change. It covers the core conceptual material needed for more advanced study in Politics, but also introduces you to ideas and approaches that can be applied in other social sciences. This is one of the core modules for EPAIS students.

  • Orientation Game

    We will brief you on this session once the societies are finished in MS.01. The objective of this game is to get to know campus and your mentor groups. You must find and go to various locations around campus. Once there take a photo of your group at the location, the requested item or of yourselves doing the activity. Photos and answers must be uploaded to Twitter using the hashtag #warwickeconinduction along with your group number so we know which photo belongs to which group. Once finished, the first group back to R0.21 having uploaded all of their photos will win.

  • Meet your Mentors

    In this first meeting you will meet your mentors; a great opportunity to get to know them and your fellow students. Your mentor will be in contact with regards to the location of the meeting.

  • International Economics Game

    The international economics game was developed by the Third World developing charity Action Aid. We have adapted it to give you the chance to interact with your fellow classmates whilst also seeing economic principles put into practice. Scarce resources, technology, innovation, teamwork, trade, pricing, development, auctions and bargaining will all be used throughout this game. The objective is to make money using the resources you are given and a little bit of innovation!

    This session will be delivered by the Economics Librarian, Helen Riley and will give a brief introduction to the facilities offered by the library, available for you to use.

    This is a brief introduction to one of your core modules EC107 Economics 1. Teaching for all EC100 coded modules will commence in week 2. Your personal lecture timetable will be available via Start.Warwick on the day after you have registered your modules.

  • Introduction to EC121 Mathematical Techniques A

    This is a brief introduction to one of your core modules EC121 Mathematical Techniques A. This module is only for those who do not have A-Level Maths or equivalent. Teaching for all EC100 coded modules will commence in week 2. Your personal lecture timetable will be available via Start.Warwick on the day after you have registered your modules.

  • Introduction to PO131 World Politics

    This module provides an introduction to the study of World Politics / International Relations. It examines the historical underpinnings of the system of states, the contemporary structure of international relations, key actors within that structure, key issues of concern, and theories of international relations. It provides a solid grounding for further study in politics, international relations, and political economy in the second and third years. The reading material is mainly drawn from the literature on Politics/International Relations, but you are encouraged to read widely from cognate disciplines: History, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy and Economics. This module is one of the core modules for EPAIS students.

  • Economics Briefings Project Q&A Drop In

    The economic briefings project is a unique initiative enabling you to acquire new skills and hands-on practical experience in data analysis and the application of Economics to the real world. As an induction, please make sure you have watched the induction video that was made available to you. The leader of the Economics Briefing Project will briefly introduce the project during induction lectures, and will be delivering this Q&A drop in session to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

  • Student Experience, Introduction to the Mentor Scheme and Student Support

    When you join the Department of Economics, you will be joining a friendly and active department with a range of both academic and social events run outside of lectures each term. During this presentation, you will be able to find out more about the activities we run to enhance your experience of studying Economics at Warwick including the Undergraduate Mentor Scheme, Personal Development Module and Economic Briefings Project. You will also be introduced to the support which is available to you throughout your time at Warwick.

  • Head of Department’s Welcome Reception and Address

    The Head of Department will formally welcome all new undergraduate students to the Department and University. This will provide an opportunity for you to get to know members of staff and enjoy some drinks and nibbles.

  • Student Careers and Skills Workshop

    As well as an introduction to the wide range of services provided by the Student Careers and Skills service (SCS), this session will inform you of how SCS will support your career development from day one.

    Academic Week 2
  • Lectures Begin for First Year Economics Modules

    Lectures for term 1 EC coded modules will start week commencing Monday 9 October 2017. Your personal lecture timetable will be available via Tabula on the day after you have registered your modules.

  • Personal Tutor Meeting

    You will be allocated a personal tutor who is a member of academic staff from the Department. The Undergraduate Office will arrange a group meeting in academic week 2 with your personal tutor to help answer any questions you may have, whilst also discussing the role of the personal tutor and the importance of meeting your contact points.
