360 Lecture: Marc Stears

Marc Stears, Chief Executive of the New Economic Foundation, will be presenting the next 360 lecture entitled "Really Taking Back Control".

At NEF, Marc is fully committed to doing what he can to help stimulate vigorous, open and imaginative public debate about the possibilities of systematic economic change.

During his time in academia, Marc was employed by a number of charitable and commercial organisations worldwide – from China to Argentina – helping them to develop more collaborative, democratic and inclusive methods of work in the ‘here and now’.

In 2011, Marc sought to develop this more practical work in greater depth as a visiting fellow at the Institute for Public Policy Research. Building on these experiences, from 2012 to 2015, he was chief speechwriter and a senior strategic advisor to the leader of the British Labour Party, where he also assisted with policy development in a range of key areas.

Marc’s professional life has been dedicated to understanding how to build a more just, democratic and inclusive economy - one which treats people as far more than the means to the creation of private profit, and which directly addresses the injustices so many people experience in their everyday lives. Marc’s varied career began as a post-doctoral research fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. There he worked on a book 'Progressives, Pluralists and the Problems of the State'.

This lecture is organised in collaboration with the Warwick Economics SocietyLink opens in a new window.
