Careers in Economics 2018

Come and network with a range of employers and management consultancies and take part in careers and skills sessions to enhance your employability.

This event is for both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Economics or PPE.

To make the most of this event, we have prepared for you a handout with guidelines on how to interact with the employers and you will collect it on arrival at the venue. An electronic copy is available for you before the event in case you wished to do some pre-event reading and other suggested preparation activities before the event: Careers in Economics 2018 Event Preparation Guide.

Thursday 8 November 2018, 11:00 - 4:00pm
Panorama, Rootes Building

You will have an opportunity to meet and discuss your career options with representatives from a wide range of employers, including CMA, PA Consulting, Oxera, Ofcom, Vivid Economics, Nera Economic Consulting, Frontier Economics, Institute for Fiscal Studies, Compass Lexecon, Civil Service Fast Stream, Fideres, RBB Economics, Arup and FTI Consulting.

The event is divided into two important parts which you can benefit from in different ways:

Networking Session

This session will be held in Panorama 1 and 2 between 11:00 – 16:00 and will allow you to network and socialise with multiple employers. They are available to give you valuable insights, advice and answer any careers related questions you may have.

To have a smooth flow throughout the day, please see below suggested times to attend:

  • Year 1 UGs between 13:00 - 15:00
  • Year 2 UGs between 11:00 - 12:00
  • Year 3 UGs between 14:00 - 16:00
  • MSc (L1P6 and L1P7) between 13:00 - 15:00
  • MSc BES (C8P8) between 14:00 - 16:00

These are only guidelines based on your timetables, but please feel free to attend at different times if you do not have a lecture or seminar.

Employer Presentations

This will be held in Panorama 3 and will have six unique employers delivering presentations with various economics related topics. After each presentations, there will be 10 minutes of Q&A with that employer who will clarify every questions and uncertainties you might have. These will be spread across the entire duration of the event in the following order:

15:15 - 15:50 Life at the CMA: Using Economics to Drive Good Competition Policy. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)

Registration

Registration is compulsory and you'll need to sign up via Tabula. Further information is available below. Your student ID card will be scanned upon entry.

You will need to indicate which of the separate sessions listed in the Event Programme below you wish to register. To register for these sessions, go into Tabula and search for module code 'EC-GENERAL'.
Please note: Photography will be taking place at this event, which may be used for marketing purposes (e.g. promotional materials). By registering your attendance at this event, you are giving consent to be photographed, however if you do not wish to be photographed, please inform the photographer or a member of Economics staff on the day.
