360 Guest Lecture with Dr Tymofiy Mylovanov

The Department of Economics is delighted to welcome Dr Tymofiy Mylovanov as our next 360 Guest Lecture speaker for the 2021/22 academic year.

Date: Thursday 28 April, 6.15 - 7.15pm (UK Time)
Location: Oculus, OC1.09

We will be running this lecture as a hybrid event so you will be able to join us in-person or on-line. Dr Mylovanov will be joining us virtually from Ukraine.

Professor Francesco Squintani will introduce the speaker and chair the Q&A session at the end of the lecture.

This event is for staff and students only and registration is required in order to attend. First year students who attend the lecture will be able to get PDM points.

About the Talk

Dr Mylovanov will discuss the impact the war will have for Ukraine and the global economy. He will talk about:

  • The current security and economic situation in Ukraine
  • Possible scenarios for the end of the war and what these would mean for the rest of the world
  • Food security, energy security and the logistical security implications for the global economy
  • What the structure of the global economy will look like after the war in Ukraine

About the speaker - Dr Tymofiy Mylovanov

Tymofiy Mylovanov is President of Kyiv School of Economics.

Tymofiy Mylovanov graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Management) in 1997 and from Kyiv-Mohyla Academy majoring in Economic Theory in 1999. In 2004 he got his PhD in Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).

Tymofiy’s research interests cover such areas as theory of games and contracts and institutional design. His articles on these topics have been published in the leading international academic magazines, including Econometrica, American Economic Review and the Review of Economic Studies.

On July 7, 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine elected Tymofiy Mylovanov to the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine, and since October 2016 until August 2019 he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Board. From August 2019 to March 2020, Tymofiy Milovanov held the post of Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine. On April 6th 2020 Tymofiy Milovanov returned to work at the Kyiv School of Economics as President of the School of Economics.

In 2014 and 2015 (the rating is not issued anymore) Forbes Ukraine included Tymofiy Mylovanov in the ranking of the best Ukrainian economists.

Fundraising Campaign for Ukraine Humanitarian Relief

The Kyiv School of Economics Charitable Foundation (KSE CF) and Ukrainian businesses and state-owned companies have launched a humanitarian aid campaign for Ukraine. The campaign’s objective is to purchase first aid kits for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Paramedic Association.

Working directly with the Government of Ukraine, other funds, and multiple volunteer organizations, the KSE has established itself as one of the largest humanitarian aid foundations providing vital medicines to Ukraine.
