How can we measure national happiness? Daniel Sgroi and his colleagues have applied cutting edge methods to measure happiness over time, using millions of books.

They have created the first ever ‘index of national happiness’, going back to 1820. So what are the secrets to national happiness? The data suggest that avoiding conflict and staying healthy are much more significant to our wellbeing than wealth.
