The IEL Collective will be hosting its first Inaugural Conference from 6-7 November 2019 at the University of Warwick and is calling for papers.

The conference will focus on ‘Disrupting Narratives and Pluralising Engagement in International Economic Law Scholarship, Teaching and Practice.' It aims to bring together scholars, policymakers, campaigners and practitioners, to contribute towards the development of The IEL Collective and to springboard and further new and existing conversations about the past, present and future of the discipline.

Papers and contributions that speak to the themes of the Collective and invite critical and contextual reflections of teaching, research and practical engagement with the broad sphere of international economic law are welcomed. This can include explorations of thematic or substantive areas of international economic law, broadly conceived; contributions towards or challenges of methodological diversity within the discipline; engagements with the policy and practice of international economic law; and issues relating to the engagement of a broader community of scholars, students and stakeholders in the field of international economic law.

The IEL Collective was launched to provide a space for critical reflection on these complex interactions in the growing field of international economic law. It aims to explore how epistemological and methodological diversity in the discipline can contribute towards the development of a more holistic landscape of scholarship on law and the governance of the global economy. It aims to stimulate conversations about plurality, representation and criticality in researching, teaching and practising international economic law and spark new conversations about the future of the discipline.

Celine Tan, Director of the GLOBE Centre, and one of the founding partners of The IEL Collective told us, “‘Warwick Law School through our two research centres, the Centre for Law, Regulation and Governance (GLOBE) and the Centre for Human Rights in Practice (CHRP) are excited about the launch of this initiative and pleased to be hosting the inaugural conference.

The deadline for paper proposals is 31 July 2019. Anyone interested should submit a title and brief abstract (250 words max) at the conference website. All applicants will be notified of a decision by the end of September.
