GLAM-E Lab collaboration brings open access to Wales’ national collections

The GLAM-E Lab, based at the University of Warwick, has collaborated with Amgueddfa Cymru Museum Wales to bring open access to Wales’ national collections.

Amgueddfa Cymru has released thousands of images to the public domain by making them freely available on a new platform, Amgueddfa Cymru Images. This puts Wales at the forefront of open access on par with global institutions such as the Natural History Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Rijksmuseum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Dr Andrea Wallace, UK Director of the GLAM-E Lab at the University of Warwick said:

“We can’t wait to see what exciting and inspiring things people create with the images of Wales’ national collections. We are thrilled to see Amgueddfa Cymru take this step forward to become a leader and innovator on open access for the UK cultural sector.”

The GLAM-E Lab works directly with cultural institutions to develop open access solutions that showcase to the world the exciting collections and knowledge that these organisations steward. A joint initiative between the University of Warwick and the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy at NYU Law School, the Lab has collaborated with nearly 50 cultural institutions and community organisations to date.
