LLM student participates in International Tax Conference
Lynet Mwangi is a recipient of the Chevening scholarship and currently studying on our LLM in International Economic Law.
From the 5-6 June 2025, Lynet was (in her words) "privileged" to attend the Viennese Symposium on International Tax Law at WU, Institute of Austrian and International Tax Law in Vienna, Austria. This year, the focus of the symposium and the panel discussions was on the recent developments of the UN Model Convention which provides a model framework for the taxation of cross-border incomes. The event brought together researchers, tax professionals, government officials and thought leaders in international tax policy.
We chatted to Lynet about her experiences at both the conference and on the IEL LLM programme, and she told us:
"Attending this conference at a time when I am writing my LLM Thesis on the allocation of taxing rights over cross-border incomes felt useful, timely and surreal altogether. Not only did the conference give me ideas for my research, it also served as a great avenue for networking and building technical capacity."
"WU Vienna has hosted this symposium annually for many years, but this was my first-year attending, under the invitation of researchers currently working at the Institute and who I have previously worked with in Kenya."
"The LLM at the University of Warwick has exposed me to International Law subjects which interact in a uniquely wholistic way. My selected modules and research project have intensified my interest in working to shape international tax policy post graduate school. I have also formed great friendships and networks along the way as well, thanks to a diverse class composition."
Congratulations Lynet and best of luck for the rest of your studies.
