Five WLS students win Gold Warwick Award

We are delighted to announce that five Warwick Law students have recently achieved a Gold Warwick Award. Finalist LLB students Naveera Abhayawickrama, Tolu Adeyemo, Hailey Chu and Sara Duggal, were kind enough to share their experience of the Warwick Award and why they would encourage others to get involved.

Naveera Abhayawickrama

My award points are a culmination of my academic modules and extracurricular activities. Among them would be volunteering via Warwick Volunteers, participating in the Warwick law clinics, the school tasking programme, Exec roles, part-time work, and courses such as Thrive. I enjoyed writing my reflections as it gave me an opportunity to reflect on the activities I’ve done, which has helped me explain my achievements better and more structured in interviews!

The Warwick Award involved reflecting on both my academic and extra-curricular activities, which included modules I had studied, positions of responsibility, volunteering and part-time work. I particularly enjoyed reflecting on everything I had taken part in and evaluating the skills and knowledge I had gained. Students can become carried away by commitments and forget to consider how these activities have shaped their growth. I am glad the Award prompted this necessary reflection. I would recommend the Warwick Award because it formally recognises the full range of activities and responsibilities you manage alongside your studies.

I achieved the Gold Warwick Award through a mix of academic modules, my summer work placement, and executive roles in student societies. What I liked most was realising how many of my everyday university experiences already demonstrated key skills once I reflected on them. It didn’t feel like extra work, instead it helped me recognise the value of what I was already doing. The reflection process helped me see how much I’d developed during my degree. I’d definitely recommend it to others as it’s an easy and rewarding way to showcase your achievements.

Sara Duggal

I thoroughly enjoyed working for the Gold Warwick Award because it inspired me to pursue a variety of options, such as studying basic Korean and Spanish, completing online internships, helping with UNICEF, and attending Moodle courses. Volunteering was the most rewarding part; I enjoyed organising engaging activities for primary school students while teaching them about human rights. The experience helped me develop my confidence, communication skills, and cultural knowledge. I would suggest the Warwick Award to anyone; it is an excellent way to explore new activities, improve critical skills and make use of everything Warwick has to offer.

Congratulations to all our winners on this fantastic achievement.

What is the Warwick Award and why should you do it?

The Warwick Award gives you the opportunity to develop vital skills that will improve your employability after graduation. The Award is open to all undergraduate and taught master’s programme students, and can be completed at a pace that suits you over the course of your degree. For undergraduates, it will appear on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) transcript, while postgraduates who complete the Award will be issued with a digital certificate signed by the Vice Chancellor.

The Award is based around 12 core employability skills that we’ve worked with a range of employers to identify as being crucial for your next steps after graduation.

The Award recognises the transferable employability skills you will develop through completing academic modules, extra-curricular training courses and co-curricular activities you get involved with during your time at Warwick. It also highlights training and development opportunities so you can craft a range of skills to help set you up for a fantastic start to life after graduation. The Award can be personalised to allow you to choose activities based on your own interests and focus on the skills that matter the most to you and your future.

The Warwick Award has been designed to help you showcase all of the skills you will build throughout your time here, and set you up for a fantastic start to life after graduation. By completing the Award you'll develop a range of core skills that employers have told us they want to see in new graduates, you'll learn how to reflect on those skills, and you'll build a bank of examples of how you've built those skills that you can use when applying for jobs.
