Professor Ana Aliverti elected to the Academy of Social Sciences

Congratulations to Warwick Law School’s Professor Ana Aliverti, who has recently been appointed as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

The Academy’s Fellowship welcomes 45 new leading social scientists this autumn. All elected for their excellence in their fields and substantial contributions to social science for public interest. Find out more.

Nominated by Professor John Harrington from the Socio-Legal Studies Association for her impact on the strategic direction of border criminology and commitment to social change, he describes Ana’s work as theoretically insightful, empirically rigorous, and genuinely interdisciplinary.

Her book Crimes of Mobility draws on debates in criminology, criminal law theory and the sociology of punishment to illuminate the contemporary significance of citizenship for legal regulation. Policing the Borders Within, an ethnography of the UK immigration police, interrogates key assumptions in the sociology and anthropology of policing by situating the everyday work of the police within a wider historical and geopolitical context.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Aliverti said: “I am honoured to be appointed as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. It is a huge privilege to join the Academy to continue to foster the excellence, relevance, vitality and inclusivity of socio-legal studies in the UK and beyond."
