Warwick Law School welcomes a new Assistant Professor to our community.

Prior to joining Warwick, Katie Morris was working as a lecturer at Lancaster University convening the Equity & Trusts Law module, as well as teaching on Land Law and International Law.

When asked about joining Warwick Law School as a faculty member, Katie told us:

"I am very excited to be joining Warwick since I undertook my LLM here during the COVID-19 pandemic, so I have yet to experience how lively the campus can get! As a student, I was struck by the School's Law in Context approach which has informed my teaching and research ever since. I look forward to continuing to embed this within my future academic activities.”

What will you be doing at Warwick?

I will be teaching on Trusts Law, Property Law and Law in Context. In terms of research, I will be finalising my monograph which is an adaption of my PhD thesis in which I explore socio-economic rights from a care-informed approach. I’m also writing up my findings on a recent project I undertook exploring university students’ experiences of food and housing (in)security from a human rights lens.

What are your research interests?

My research interests are in socio-economic rights, primarily the rights to food, housing and education. Within my research, I examine how the intersection of factors such as gender, race, ethnicity and (dis)ability contribute to inequalities experienced in our everyday lives.

Why did you want to study law?

Law appealed to me since it combined a lot of my existing interests including reading, philosophical thinking and diving down a research rabbit hole. Pursuing a career in academia has allowed me to continue to do all these things – and avoid having to be confrontational in a court room!

University can be very stressful, what do you do to unwind?

When not working, I like to read anything non-academic to switch off. I’m also currently attempting to listen to a new album each day so will happily take recommendations!
