Bio

Katie is an Assistant Professor at Warwick Law School. Before joining Warwick, Katie was a Lecturer at Lancaster University. Katie was awarded her PhD from Durham University in 2024, where she previously obtained her LLB. In between these degrees, Katie studied at Warwick, completing an LLM in International Development and Human Rights Law. She has also acted as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Nottingham.

Scholarship

Katie's research interests lie in social and economic rights, most prominently the right to food, the right to housing and the right to education. Adopting a socio-legal approach, Katie has explored a variety of issues spanning across this field including, but not limited to, the localisation of human rights, university students' experiences of housing (in)security and food systems transformation via emerging technologies. At the centre of Katie's work is a critique of inequalities produced through the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, (dis)ability and socio-economic status.

Katie is currently drafting her monograph entitled Reimagining Socio-Economic Rights: Care Ethics International Human Rights Law, which is set to be published by Bristol University Press in September 2027. This work expands upon Katie's doctoral thesis, in which she championed the adoption of a human rights-based approach grounded in Joan Tronto’s political theory of care to transform policy governing access to food within the UK. Her monograph develops these ideas by illuminating the value of the political theory of care as a way of reimagining socio-economic rights more broadly, offering greater precision regarding the state action required for universal need fulfilment both within states and on the international level.
