COVID-19 and the suspension of financial and securities regulation rules: Striking the right balance

Dr Andreas Kokkinis, Associate Professor of Law at Warwick, is part of a new project focusing on regulatory suspensions during the Covid-19 crisis.

Working alongside Professor Iris Chiu from UCL and Dr Andrea Miglionico from the University of Reading, the project will focus on the suspension of the normal application of regulatory rules during times of crises, in the areas of financial and securities regulation. Drawing from in-depth case studies on the approach taken by UK regulators during the COVID-19 pandemic, the research will examine whether an appropriate balance has been struck between the objective of mitigating the effects of the crisis on firms and families and long-term regulatory objectives such as financial stability and investor protection.

The project was spearheaded by the following blog post: ‘Financial Regulation Suspensions in Times of Crisis’ (co-authored with Iris HY Chiu and Andrea Miglionico) Oxford Business Law Blog, University of Oxford Faculty of Law, 10 April 2020.
