April 2017 Project Visit to Delhi and Haryana

In April 2017, the Warwick project team went to India in order to meet with the project partners, Nandini Manjrekar (TISS Mumbai), Nidhi Sabharwal (NUEPA) and Manish Jain (Ambedkar University Delhi), to have the first Consultative group meeting, and to visit Central University Haryana. The visit was very successful and also allowed the team to begin working with Anjali Thomas, the first PhD student to be funded by the project – she will be starting at Warwick in October 2017. The visit also allowed the team to strengthen their relations with the partners on the project and to visit NUEPA and Ambedkar University Delhi.

During the visit, the team ran a workshop on gender and intersectionality at Ambedkar University Delhi with MA students, and got some great input for the project. Valuable input also came out of the Consultative Group meeting, held at the International Habitat Centre in Delhi. The Consultative Group is comprised of interdisciplinary scholars from a range of institutions who will contribute their expertise to the project. At the inaugural meeting, the members contributed ideas on the direction the pilot study should take.

April 2017 visit

Finally, following a generous invitation by Dr Renu Yadav, the team visited Central University Haryana in Mahendergarh district and held a discussion event with staff and students. Dr Yadav also organised a visit to the government college at Narnaul and once again received very enthusiastic responses about the project from the college leadership team and staff.

Overall, the April 2017 was a real success and allowed the team to make concrete plans about the pilot study and next visit.
