The TaBLE method – handling teaching challenges of teamwork, case teaching and student engagement in Law classrooms

Law teachers frequently encounter familiar challenges in the classroom: students who arrive unprepared, resist collaborative work, or remain silent in response to questions. In the context of generative AI, many educators are also grappling with how to evaluate genuine learning without relying on individual oral assessments for every student.

This workshop introduces the Team-Based Learning and Evaluation (TaBLE) Case Method, an evidence-informed pedagogical approach that integrates collaborative learning with case-based/Scenario analysis instruction. TaBLE enhances students’ motivation to prepare, attend, and participate; fosters individual accountability within group settings; and cultivates higher-order skills such as critical reasoning, argumentation, and creative problem-solving.

Participants will explore how the method can be adapted to diverse forms of legal instruction — from traditional case law analysis to media-based or contemporary problem scenarios — to strengthen engagement and make the connection between theory and legal practice more explicit.
