Paul Madden on Japan in the Indo-Pacific

Paul Madden CMG was British Ambassador to Japan (2017-21) and High Commmissioner to Australia (2011-15) and Singapore (2007-11). He is currently a senior adviser to several multinational corporations, seves as a board member of the UK/Japan 21st Century Group, and is a visiting professor of International Relations at Keio University. Paul has an MA in Economic Geography from Cambridge University, an MBA from Durham University and previously studied Japanese at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies.

The Indo Pacific region plays a vital role in the global economy, and so the various security tensions arising from a more assertive China pose a significant concern on the global stage. At the heart of these dynamics lies Japan, a vital military ally of the United States, an ethusiastic participant in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, and a country that is stregnthening security cooperation with partners, including the United Kingdom. In this talk, Paul Madden, former British Ambassador to Japan (2017-21) will give his perspective on the region and its evolving dynamics.
