Prof Takashi TERADA (Doshisha University, Kyoto Japan)
Asia Paradox: Supremacy of Realism over European Liberalism ?
Abstract: This seminar aims to elucidate causation behind the emergence of what is called “Asia Paradox”, signifying the growing mutual economic interdependence and increasing mutual unreliability among Asian states. A chief factor can be China’s ambition to translate economic prowess to sustain the political challenges to the existing regional as well as global orders. The seminar intends to prove that “Asia Paradox” is being more embedded in regional structure in East Asia especially after Shinzo Abe was reelected by illustrating China-Japan power struggles over shaping a new regional order.
