Winter celebrations for PAIS Graduates

Published on 03/02/2026

On the 23rd of January, the Politics and International Studies (PAIS) department celebrated a cohort of students graduating from PhD’s, Postgraduate and Undergraduate degrees.

PAIS hosted an exciting graduation reception in honour of the achievements of our graduates. The event hosted on Friday afternoon after the ceremony was held at the Panorama room in our Rootes building. Our event was open to our graduating class, their friends, family and loved ones and it gave them the opportunity to connect with their fellow graduates allowing them to be proud of their incredible achievements.

At the event, our Head of Department, Matthew Clayton, Former Director of Postgraduate Studies, Phillipe Blanchard and Current Director of Postgraduate Studies Ben Clift, gave speeches on how proud they are of our students' achievements as well as wishing them well as they begin the next stage of their lives.

Guests also enjoyed refreshments and took advantage of photo opportunities, with their classmates and mentors. Special awards were presented to students who had demonstrated outstanding academic performance, leadership, and contributions to the PAIS community.

The winners of these awards included:

Ruotong Zhang won the Tim Sinclair prize.

Joe Earnshaw won the prize for Best Overall Performance in the Postgraduate Degree in Politics, Big Data and Quantitative methods.

Sam Webb was awarded a prize for the Best Overall Performance in the Postgraduate Degree in International Relations.

Declan Webster won the prize Best Overall Performance in the Postgraduate Degree in Public Policy.

Elise Atkins-Louis was awarded Best Overall Performance in the Postgraduate Degree in International Security.
