Professor Shaun Breslin elected Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences

The Department is delighted to announce that Shaun Breslin, Professor of Politics and International Studies, has been elected to a Fellowship of the Academy of the Social Sciences — Britain’s national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners representing nearly 90,000 social scientists. Its annual fellowships are given to those recognised by their peers for the excellence and impact of their work.

Author or co-author of four books and more than one hundred journal articles and book chapters, Professor Breslin was praised for his research into China’s role in the changing global order and the importance of understanding the domestic drivers of its foreign policy in formulating responses to China’s rise.

Commenting on the news Nick Vaughan-Williams Head of PAIS said: "This prestigious Fellowship confirms what we in PAIS already know: that Shaun is a leading Social Scientist and one of the world’s foremost authorities on China’s role in the changing global order. The non-academic impact of Shaun's work is one of its central hallmarks — as Senior Scientist of the £8 million EU-funded FP7 programme ‘Global Re-Ordering: Evolution through European Networks’ (GR:EEN), he has informed and shaped international practitioner debates on Chinese domestic and international politics. We congratulate him on this serious achievement”.
