Ben Richardson interviewed about the UK sugar tax

Dr Ben Richardson spoke on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire’s breakfast radio show about the UK Chancellor’s announcement to introduce a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks.

You can hear the interview at 1:24:25 on the 17 March episode here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03chdm1

In a statement Dr Richardson said of the policy: “The sugar tax should be welcomed. It will raise revenue for sporting activities in primary schools. It will also send a powerful message to the public that sugary drinks are dangerous in excess. But it should not be a distraction. Schools still face real-term budget cuts as do local authorities, the part of government responsible for public health in England. Many efforts to promote healthy eating and exercise that should get funded, still won’t.”
