PhD Viva Success - Dan Wood

Dan Wood passed his viva on 7th November with his examiners singing his praises, both for an exceptionally well conceived and constructed thesis and for a formidable performance in the viva.

Dan's PhD is entitled "Relative Predictability: The International Political Economy of Passive Investment".

In the thesis he analysed the practices of index providers, asset managers and passive investment products to develop an account of the techniques that make financial markets 'relatively predictable'. As a pioneer of research on passive investment, Dan contributes to understanding the political significance of passive investment strategies, in particular in terms of structures of privilege, the reproduction of social ordering practices, and the centralisation of financial power.

His examiners were Randall Germain from Carleton University and Matthew Watson. Dan was supervised by our former much missed colleague Tim Sinclair, who very sadly passed away during Dan's first year, Chris Clarke, and Lena Rethel
