New Grant Success - Challenging Covert Counterterrorism Tactics

The Baring Foundation have awarded £90,000 over 36 months for research that will underpin litigation against the 'Police Led Partnerships' (PLP) program, run by Counterterrorism Policing in the UK. The team comprises Open Rights Group, DPG Law, Preventwatch, and Professor Heath-Kelly of PAIS. Previously, Professor Heath-Kelly's ERC project uncovered the existence of the covert PLP program - which secretly deploys welfare, education, housing and apprenticeship to 'divert' people suspected of extremist engagement. The research and litigation team will prepare material for a legal challenge of this covert surveillance and 'nudge' program run by the security services.
