Call for Contributors: Pinpoint Politics
Gain experience writing for a political analysis website with thousands of hits.
Pinpoint Politics is a political analysis resource bank that features content on UK policies and international politics. Initially conceived as a joint project between postgraduates at the University of Warwick, UCL and KCL, and funded through a Santander Scholarship, Pinpoint Politics has expanded to become a resource for both young professionals involved in politics and students studying at Master’s level and beyond, with new teams of contributors currently being finalised at the University of Bristol, LSE, UCL, KCL, and the University of Sheffield. Our team of contributors includes young professionals beginning careers in the political sphere, as well as guest submissions from academics and high-level professionals, including a forth-coming interview with Mark Allworthy, Managing Director of the International Institute for Security Studies (Middle East) in Bahrain.
We’re looking for 6-8 motivated individuals, capable of writing high-quality political analysis. Each contributor should commit to writing one 1200-1600 word article of thought-provoking and original content every two months for the website.
Pinpoint Politics has been read in over one hundred countries, with many articles receiving thousands of hits and attention from academic journals (Excursions Journal / University of Galway). Involvement is an excellent opportunity for current students looking for future jobs in political consultancies and think tanks, as well as for aspiring journalists to gain valuable experience. Each contributor is given a ‘contributor’s profile’, improving their online visibility: a definite asset when applying for future jobs.
If you would like to apply please send a example of political analysis along with your CV to pinpointpolitics@hotmail.co.uk. Feel free to explore the website http://pinpointpolitics.co.uk/ to gain a greater idea of previous article content.

Prof Chris Hughes quoted in Straits Times article
Chris Hughes, Head of Department and Chair of the Faculty of Social Sciences, was recently quoted in an article appearing in the 4 October issue of Straits Times entitled 'Japan's shift to be "normal"'. Below is an excerpt from the piece:
The more conservative views of an LDP/Restoration Party government would likely be dampened once their policies get filtered through Japan’s bureaucratic framework, says Professor Christopher Hughes, a Japan watcher at the University of Warwick. “In this sense, I do not see a radical shift, but just the incremental moving along the path to so-called ‘normality’, with a great disposition for Japan to defend itself and work with the US.”
Prof Shaun Breslin participates in Chatham House event on 'The EU and China: The Balance Sheet'
In the build-up to the 15th EU-China Summit (held in Brussels on 20 September 2012), the Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN) hosted an event at Chatham House in London (17 September) on the theme of 'The EU and China: The Balance Sheet'. The event saw key EU officials and leading experts, including PAIS's Prof Shaun Breslin, look at the current status of the EU-China relationship and assess how it has developed over the last decade, what the historic legacy of Wen Jiabao is likely to be, and what the current core issues are as both Europe and China undergo major challenges – economic for the former and leadership transition for the latter.
