Dr Lena Rethel and Dr Alexandra Homolar secure RDF Strategic Fund bid
Dr Lena Rethel, Assistant Professor of International Political Economy, and Dr Alexandra Homolar, Assistant Professor of International Security, have secured a Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Research Development Fund (RDF) Security bid in collaboration with a colleague from The Centre for Applied Linguistics (CAL) at Warwick. The funding awarded from this successful bid will go towards their project entitled 'Crisis Leadership in Global Economic and Security Governance'.
Dr Ben Richardson and Dr João Nunes secure grant from University of Brazil's Partnership Development Fund & Food Security
Dr Ben Richardson, current Research Fellow and future Assistant Professor in PAIS, and Dr João Nunes, ESRC Research Fellow in PAIS, have successfully secured a Partnership Development Fund & Food Security grant from the University of Brazil. The grant will go towards a project that Dr Richardson and Dr Nunes have been working on entitled 'Brazilian Discourse on Food Security'.
Dr Oz Hassan receives funding for new project from Compagnia di San Paolo
Following closely on the heels of his recent success in securing a ESRC Future Research Leaders grant last week, PAIS is delighted to announce that Dr Oz Hassan, Research Fellow in GR:EEN, has confirmed that he will be receiving funding from the Compagnia di San Paolo in Italy part of a consortium for a project looking into US and EU civil society engagement in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Chris Hughes appointed Chair of Faculty of Social Sciences
Effective from 1 September, Prof Chris Hughes, Professor of International Politics and Japanese Studies and Head of Department in PAIS, will serve as the new Chair of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Prof Hughes will also continue in his current role as Head of Department.
Dr Ben Richardson's research on 'sugar aid' featured in The Guardian
Dr Ben Richardson, current Research Fellow and future Assistant Professor in PAIS, has recently been featured in an article by Mark Tran in The Guardian entitled 'EU sugar aid for Swaziland leaves a bitter taste'. Below is an excerpt from the piece:
"The attempts by the European commission to integrate the EU sugar regime deeper into the world market as part of its 2013 common agricultural policy (CAP) reform – not to mention prospective liberalisation under the Doha round or an EU-Mercosur (Latin America's trade bloc) – would effectively sacrifice its poverty reduction agenda on the altar of price competitiveness," says Richardson.
