Dr Chris Moran discusses James Bond

On 2 June, Dr Chris Moran discussed the relationship between the fictional James Bond and the real-life CIA in a lecture delivered in the Library of Congress. His discussion is further detailed in a forthcoming book Classified: Secrecy and the State in Post-War Britain.

Dr Steven Kettell discusses politics, religion and the war on terror

Dr Steven Kettell was invited to give a lecture to the world's oldest secular society (the Leicester Secular Society). The talk was on Political Science, Religion and Secularisation.

He has also taken part in an online discussion organised by the Knowledge Centre on the subject of 'Britain and the War on Terror'. Details of the discussion can be found here.

Prof Islah Jad to visit Warwick

The Reconceptualising Gender research network, funded by the British Academy and co-directed by Nicola Pratt, will host a visit by Prof. Islah Jad, Institute of Women’s Studies, University of Birzeit, Palestine, to Warwick, 1-20 August. During her visit, Prof. Jad will give a public lecture on higher education in Palestine under Israeli occupation as well as participating in a workshop with members of the Centre for the Study of Women and Gender.

Dr Nicola Pratt speaks on the Arab Spring

As dramatic events continue to unfold in the Arab world, Dr Nicola Pratt was invited to speak by the Women's Professional Association (London) on 'The Role of Women in Shaping a New Arab World'.

She was also invited by Poet in the City to speak on the Egyptian revolution as part of Shubbak festival, sponsored by the Lord Mayor of London

Finally, Nicola was invited by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (Orpington branch) to speak on ‘The Arab Spring and its Implications’.

Following a visit to Cairo at the beginning of June, Nicola published a short article, ‘Debating theFuture of the Arab Revolutions in Cairo: Democracy, Imperialism andNeoliberalism’ on Jadaliyya.com.
