Arzu Kibris has been named a Turing Fellow by the Alan Turing Institute for a tenure of two years. The ATI is the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. The fellowship will allow Arzu to interact with colleagues in related disciplines and at other universities, initiate research through new collaborations and partnerships and help set the research agenda for the Institute.

Dr Caroline Kuzemko recently appeared on Phil Upton's programme on BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire, discussing how the Hothouse Earth will affect our lives, and what we can do to halt the effects of climate change.

The Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) is delighted to announce that in the 2018 National Student Survey we have achieved an overall student satisfaction result of 95 per cent for PO-coded degrees.

This year PAIS has regained our position as 1st in the University for overall student satisfaction. We are particularly pleased to report that we are 1st in the University for assessment and feedback, and 2nd for organization and management. We are also 1st in the University for student feedback being acted on and 2nd for staff valuing students' views and opinions about their course.

We have also improved our position nationally and are now ranked 1st for Politics in the Russell Group for overall student satisfaction. Other highlights among our Russell Group competitors include:

• 1^st for Organization and management
• 1^st for Student voice

Our sustained performance in overall student satisfaction in recent years is very impressive with our three year rolling average now also running at 95 per cent:

The 2018 NSS results also follow two very encouraging outcomes in recent international league tables where the Department has improved its position since 2017:

These impressive outcomes are due to an outstanding team effort among academic and professional services colleagues as well as our fantastic students. Thanks to everyone for all your hard work and support in terms of teaching, feedback, and the student experience.

At the start of the new academic year we will feedback in greater detail to all students and we will discuss and take forward ideas for further enhancement of the PAIS student experience via our Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC).

Jennifer Philippa Eggert has been invited to participate in a research symposium organised by UN Women and the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate and UN Women. The event is taking place on 18 July at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The topic is women and terrorism, and the workshop will be attended by researchers and UN practitioners. The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers and UN practitioners who work on the topic and to inform practice by research. The IAS have very kindly agreed to cover Jennifer's expenses, so she will be able to share her research and experience as a practitioner working on women, gender and (counter)terrorism.
