On 1-2 May, the University of Warwick hosted a visit by Ambassador Ignacio Higueras Hare, Peru’s ambassador to the Court of St. James.

Ambassador Higueras shared insights from his three decades of experience as a Peruvian diplomat—a career that has included senior posts in Washington, DC, Bogotá, Paris, and Brussels. He has also served as Peru’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The ambassador gave a talk about the development of economic integration in Latin America to Warwick students and staff. PAIS Professor Tom Long introduced the topic and moderated the conversation.

Ambassador Higueras reflected on his own connections to Warwick, including that he was previously the student of PAIS Professor and Warwick Vice Chancellor Stuart Croft. Along with his wife, Ena García, the Ambassador met with Peruvian students in the Warwick community.

They also opened a pop-up exhibition in the Faculty of Arts building, which was entitled ‘Migrants’ and featured works by the Peruvian artist Issa Watanabe.

The following day, the Ambassador met with colleagues from PAIS, including Head of Department Matthew Clayton. The conversation explored themes of relevant research and avenues of collaboration between the department and partner institutions in Peru.
