Profile
Yuxuan is a PhD candidate studying the evolution of public opinion on environmental policies. She has a prior MSc in Social Research from Birkbeck College, University of London, with a dissertation titled “Slow Down: Online Political Discourse on Twitter through Speed Limit Policy” and a BSc in International Relations from the University of London.
Research Interests
- The development and construction of public discourse around climate scepticism and action
- A contemporary (re)examination of democratic theory in the global north
- Mixed-methods social media research involving computational approaches and digital ethnography
At present, Yuxuan’s research is focused on the construction of normative values and the constraints from material and social tensions in limiting the effectiveness of climate action. Her thesis examines how the interweaving of cars with urban geography, the economy and political identity construct and reproduce some of the political realities that subsequently bind civic debate and choice.
Her research is jointly supervised by Dr Philippe Blanchard at PAIS and Dr Kavin Narasimhan from CIM.
