2. The political economy of development and international relations in the Asia-Pacific region
3. Theories and processes of democratisation

A fourth area which is just taking shape is comparative politics of East Asia and Europe

Current Research Projects

1. A book on Rising Powers and Global Order, focusing on the BRICS states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), the MINTs (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey) and South Korea
2. An article on the quantitative analysis of states proposing resolutions at the UN General Assembly
3. An article on the concept of competition states, especially in Pacific Asia
4. An article reviewing books from China interpreting ‘The China Dream’
