It is important that we gather information on your module preferences for the coming year to support with module availability and planning. While your selections at this stage are not binding, we strongly encourage you to complete this form, as the availability of modules will be based on the level of interest in each module.
The deadline for pre-registration is 12th September. It is recommended that you split your modules evenly across the two teaching terms.
Continental Philosophy MA students must take modules totalling 180 CATS, including both core and optional modules. For the purposes of this form, please select no more than 180 CATS in total and do not include any modules you intend to audit.
Part-time students opting to take the dissertation route must take 1 x 30 CAT module per term, in Terms 1 and 2, in both years of study. The dissertation will be completed in Year 2.
Part-time students NOT opting to take the dissertation route must complete a minimum of 1 x 30 CAT module per term, in Terms 1 and 2, across both years of study. The remaining two modules may be taken at any point during the programme, with the exception of the independent project, which must be taken in Year 2 of study. Please note that if you choose to take an additional module in Year 1, you will not be eligible to undertake the dissertation in Year 2.
Core Modules
MA Continental Philosophy students must select a minimum of 2 modules (60 CATS total) from the core modules listed below.
Part-time students may either complete both core modules in their first year of study or take one in the first year and another in the second year.
Optional Modules
Please select your remaining optional modules. Your module selections below should add up to 120 CATS only.
Permission to take modules from outside of the Philosophy Department may be sought from your course convener. The maximum number of credits that can be taken from outside of the Department under any circumstances is 30 CATS. Where you wish to take an outside option from another department, please contact the relevant department for further information on their sign-up process. However, please also indicate under Module Option 6 if you intend to take an outside option.
Please note that you may take either the Dissertation module or the Independent Project module, but not both.
The information collected by this form will be used to inform timetable planning for the next academic year. If modules become over-subscribed this information will also be used to give priority for places to those who pre-registered.
