Philosophy Department Mentoring Success

Robert Bing's article 'Overcoming the Uncanny Valley Through Shared Stressful Experience with a Humanoid Robot' features in the current online issue of the Journal of Emerging Investigators (administered by graduate students at Harvard University). In it, he explores the "Uncanny Valley" effect, or the inclination for humans to feel uncomfortable in the presence of non-living humanoid objects.

Dr Michael has received a grant from the European Research Council, which has allowed him to support the research programme of Robert Bing, both financially and via the Central European University's SOMBY Lab (The Social Mind and Body Group, Department of Cognitive Science), which examines social perception and social cognitive neuroscience.
