Current Postgraduates (Research)
Doctoral College Guidance
In addition to the below guidance, we encourage students to refer to the general advice compiled by the Doctoral College available here: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/dc/
Supervisions
Supervision meetings should continue to take place and should be conducted online. You are encouraged to use a mutually agreeable platform such as Teams, Skype or Zoom for such meetings. Your supervisor will continue to record any meetings that have taken place on Tabula.
GPCs
In light of the general situation, Doctoral College guidelines recommend a slimmed-down version of any PGR review procedures for this academic year.
In the Philosophy Department, term 3 GPCs will therefore only be held for PGR students who are due for consideration for upgrading to full PhD status, or at the request of any supervisor or PGR student who explicitly requests a GPC in order to discuss their progress or any problems they may be facing.
This means in practice that this year a third-term GPC is mandatory for you only if you are a PGR student in the third term of your first year (or second year, if part-time and not yet upgraded), or if your consideration for upgrading has been postponed to the third-term GPC (e.g. second attempt). M4C-funded students will require GPCs in addition to their progress meetings that took place last term.
GPCs for those students, and for any others specifically requested, will be held as usual in weeks 6 and 7 of term 3, and will take place electronically, e.g. via Teams or Skype.
GPC materials should be submitted to pgphilsec@warwick.ac.uk by the advertised deadline, which is Monday, 11 May, 12 noon (see https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/philosophy/intranets/postgraduate/pgr/gpc)
If you wish to request that a GPC be held for you although you are not due for upgrading, please do so by sending an email to pgphilsec@warwick.ac.uk.
Term 3 Research Events
We’re working on ways to keep some research events running in term 3. More information will follow once this has been finalised. We hope you’ll make use of what we have to offer and stay in touch with the Department.
Monitoring Points
We do not yet know what is happening with monitoring points, but will update this page as soon as we receive further updates from the University.
Impact on progress as a result of COVID-19
The University provides a number of options for students who feel their research progress is being affected by COVID-19. Full details are provided on the Doctoral College web page here: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/dc/support/staff_guidance/scholarships_funding/covid19#extend
If you are thinking of applying for one of the options listed, please discuss this with your supervisor in the first instance
Submission Deadlines and Vivas
The Doctoral College has made arrangements for all thesis submission to be made online (see here for guidance). Viva Voce examinations will take place via video conference and students due to submit in the next 6 weeks will be contacted by the department, to put arrangements in place for examination.
Graduation
As part of our priority to safeguard health during the global coronavirus outbreak, the University has decided to postpone the July 2020 Degree Ceremonies. All those students meeting the requirements of their award will still graduate in July 2020 as usual, but this will be in absentia (in their absence) rather than at an event.
Info here: https://warwick.ac.uk/insite/news/intnews2/july2020-ceremonies
Students completing from Summer 2020 would usually expect to graduate in the Winter graduation ceremonies in January 2021. At present, we are expecting these ceremonies to go ahead as planned.
