PhD research - After homicide: lived experience in the wake of tragedy

Hello - this page contains key information about my PhD research study, which is exploring the experiences of individuals and families who have been bereaved by homicide. I am studying at the University of Warwick in the Sociology department and you can find my bio here. My study is supervised by Dr Emily Gray and Dr Silvia Gomes. My research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarship.

My sister Joanna was killed in 2006 and I became a member, then volunteer for SAMM (Support After Murder and Manslaughter) around 6 years ago. When researching the experience of friends and family affected by homicide for my degree, I found there to be a lack of academic research on the effects of being impacted by homicide. This motivated me to explore this further for my PhD study. As you likely know, family and friends of homicide victims often have extended contact with the criminal justice system and may experience grief and coping in different ways to others. My study aims to better understand the effects across many areas of life, such as emotional, financial, physical, social, and spiritual. I will be doing this by conducting interviews with people who are homicide bereaved.

Please take the time to watch the short videos below and get in touch if you would like to discuss my study and if you would like to know more about being interviewed. My email address is: Thank you!
