West Midlands emerges as a leading UK FinTech hub, report reveals
The West Midlands is now recognised as one of three FinTech hubs in the UK, according to a new report revealing that the sector supports more than 11,000 jobs in the region.
The Impact Report, commissioned by SuperTech, the UK’s only tech supercluster founded in the West Midlands, also highlighted how Birmingham and the region’s FinTech businesses have generated £474m in economic output, and are on track to achieve £1bn.
Skills crisis: 85% of young people feel they have to move for opportunities
Some 85 per cent of young people between 16 and 18 feel they have to move for better job opportunities, despite having desirable tech skills, according to Social Mobility Foundation research. School leavers believe that staying in their area is not an option, with over 80 per cent saying they need to move to get better opportunities. This number rose to over 90 per cent in the north-east, Yorkshire and the east of England.
