Meet Disha Haria: Student Volunteer

Disha

Disha studies Economics, Politics and International Studies at Warwick. This summer she spent an unforgettable six weeks volunteering at University Staff Village in Accra, Ghana:

I really enjoyed the freedom and independence in lesson planning. The training days were great to get us thinking, and thereafter we were given the flexibility to deliver lessons in a way that not only suits us as teachers, but also creates a tailored and conducive learning environment for the children in our respective schools and countries.

I know for sure that I will visit Ghana again. This programme has given me the confidence to travel and volunteer in other parts of the continent, possibly on my own. A few months ago that would have been unthinkable for someone like me!

I would one day like to work with an international NGO and facilitate sustainable development in education sectors in places which need it the most. Through Warwick in Africa, seeing first-hand the deficiencies which exist in such societies, has brought this concept to life.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported this life-changing cause, and given students like myself the opportunity of a lifetime."
