Remote Desktop: Upcoming Changes
We've taken the decision not to enable Remote Desktop by default on the new Managed Windows 7 Desktop. This will stop anyone connecting to a Managed Windows 7 Desktop via Microsoft Remote Desktop, aka "RD", "RDP", "RDC", "Terminal Services" or "TS", unless they have specifically requested access.
Office 2010 available on the NAL
ITS will be making Office 2010 available on the Novell Application Launcher (NAL) from Tuesday, 20th September for any member of staff that would like to install it onto their managed desktop.
Office 2010 is not a radical change from Office 2007, but has some useful extra features. There is full backward compatibility with Office 2007 document formats, so all old documents should work just fine. The move to upgrade staff to Office 2010 has been initiated to facilitate the planned move to Live@edu for e-mail. For further information about the benefits of upgrading, and a list of FAQs see the support page.
NVivo 9 Update
IT Services has been informed by QSR (makers of NVivo) that they will be releasing NVivo 9.1 next month, which will improve the way in which NVivo handles PDF documents. Customers using NVivo 9 will automatically be informed via the software once it is released and the IT Services NVivo download will be updated accordingly.
NVivo 9.1 will still allow users to open projects from previous versions of NVivo including NVivo 9, NVivo 8 and NVivo 7. However, projects created in NVivo 9.1 can’t be opened in previous versions of NVivo, including NVivo 9. Therefore, for those working in teams, it is strongly recommend that all team members move to NVivo 9.1 at the same time.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Licence Renewal
The current licence for Kaspersky Anti-Virus Software will expire on 31 March 2011. Over the coming weeks a new version of the software will be available, offering greater protection and improved performance. To renew the software:
For ITS Managed Desktops
The new Kaspersky Anti-Virus client will install when you log in on, or after, the date of release and install automatically. This should take approximately 10 minutes to install and will require your machine to be rebooted to complete the installation. It is very important that you do this, as the new software will not be protecting your workstation until you have done so.
