What are our COLABs?
COLABs, or co-laboratories, have been set up by researchers under the Sustainability Spotlight to enable research-focussed interdisciplinary collaboration on specific issues.
COLABs are open to anyone at Warwick interested in sustainability, willing to engage and co-create!

COLAB1 - Mapping & Visualisation
This co-laboratory, led by Dr Feng Mao (IGSD)Link opens in a new window, focuses on mapping researchers' interests using a range of available datasets (publications, profile, projects) to visualise our research connections thematically, and geographically, by using keywords, and relevant algorithms. This tool developed by the Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD) will help enhance our synergy-building across and beyond Warwick.

COLAB2 - Funding & Research Synergies
This co-laboratory, led by Professor Gary Bending (WESIC), Link opens in a new windowfocuses on interdisciplinary synergy-building around specific funding calls, and bespoke training to support funding applications and network-building. It draws on visualisation maps developed by COLAB1 and works in direct partnership with interdisciplinary R&IS.
COLAB3 - ECRs & Outputs
This co-laboratory, led by Professor Elena Korosteleva (IGSD) Link opens in a new windowand Professor Stuart Coles (WMG)Link opens in a new window, focuses on developing a single communication space for ECRs across and beyond Warwick, offering them bespoke training in creative concepts, methodologies, skills and outputs, and exposure to global stakeholders in policy world, industries, businesses and practitioners, and various geographies. It draws on the established reputation of the IGSD-led Sustainability Training School Link opens in a new windowtaking it to a new level: the launch of an ECR Sustainability Training Academy (STA) in Venice. This call is now live, with the deadline for submission: 10 January 2025.
COLAB4 - Impact & Visibility
This co-laboratory, led by Professor Giuliana Battsti (WBS) Link opens in a new windowand Dr Nick Lawrence (Environmental Humanities Network)Link opens in a new window, focuses on developing global impact & network visibility through bespoke training, and by connecting it to all-level stakeholders for outreach and knowledge co-production.
COLAB5 - The Road to COP30
This co-laboratory, led by Professor Celine Tan (Law) Link opens in a new windowand Emellyne Forman (IGSD)Link opens in a new window, is closely aligned with COLAB4, and COP 29 themes, focusing on interdisciplinary research, just transitions, and equitable climate governance. The COLAB5 outcomes will directly contribute to COP 29 and COP 30, ensuring Warwick’s contributions to global climate policy are impactful and inclusive. Its work will:
- Address gaps in interdisciplinary climate research at Warwick
- Strengthen Global Majority voices and partnerships in climate policy
- Build capacity for data literacy and AI-driven policymaking.
