NEXUS: A fresh chapter for campus dining at the University of Warwick

The University of Warwick has unveiled NEXUS, the newly rebranded café formerly known as the NAIC Café. Located on the ground floor of the Lord Bhattacharyya Building, home to the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC), NEXUS now operates under the Eatwise initiative, reflecting a renewed commitment to mindful, sustainable and community-focused dining.

A name rooted in innovation

The name "NEXUS" was chosen to symbolise the café's unique position at the intersection of innovation, collaboration and community. Situated within the Lord Bhattacharyya Building - a £150 million partnership between WMG, Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors European Technical Centre and the UK Government - the café serves as a central hub for students, researchers and staff. The building itself honours Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, a visionary who significantly contributed to the university, the city of Coventry and the broader automotive industry.

Embracing the Eatwise philosophy

NEXUS's transformation aligns with the Eatwise initiative, the university's new approach to campus dining that emphasises clean, honest and healthy food. Eatwise aims to nourish both body and mind by offering meals prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced responsibly. This initiative reflects the university's dedication to sustainability and well-being, ensuring that food choices are better for customers, the community and the planet.

A revitalised menu and dining experience

Following a four-week renovation, NEXUS reopened with a refreshed menu that caters to diverse tastes and dietary needs. The café offers:

  • Breakfast Batch: Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM
  • Cooked Breakfast: Friday, 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Hot Lunch: Monday to Thursday, 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM; Friday, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Grab & Go: Sandwich and snack stations available all day

In addition to its regular offerings, NEXUS participates in the "Too Good To Go" programme, selling mystery food bags at a reduced price to combat food waste. Customers can purchase these bags for £4.99 through the app, with collections available Monday to Thursday from 2:40 PM to 3:00 PM and Friday from 2:10 PM to 2:30 PM.

Connecting community through food

NEXUS stands as more than just a place to eat; it embodies the university's mission to foster community and innovation. By integrating the principles of Eatwise and honouring the legacy of Lord Bhattacharyya, NEXUS offers a dining experience that nourishes the campus community in both body and spirit.
