Exciting new vegetarian and vegan offer at Café Oculus
From term one, Café Oculus will be selling a wider range of vegetarian and vegan products.
You will be also be able to buy any hot drink and substitute milk for a dairy free alternative. According to the Vegan Society, there are now at least 542,000 vegans in the UK. Only 10 years ago, that figure was about 150,000.
Tesco has said that demand for vegan and vegetarian products has grown 40% in the past year alone. A survey in March by research company Mintel suggested that 11% of Britons have tried to follow a vegan diet at some point.
Tony Howard, Director for Retail Food & Strategy explains the thinking behind the move.
“The trend for vegetarian and vegan food and drink in both the UK and worldwide is on the up. We have seen an increase in vegetarian and vegan products being bought in our outlets over the last year. In fact customers have been asking us for more choice and more products in our cafes and restaurants, so the time is right to pilot one of our outlets as a designated vegetarian and vegan café.
Our ambition is to start off with a small but exciting range and increase the number of items over time as we learn more about what our customers want and whether there is demand. We’ll be actively asking customers to give us their feedback so that we can tailor our offer.”
