Reg. 24 Leave of Absence to Students Elected to Sabbaticals in the Students' Union

(1)    Prior to accepting nomination for a sabbatical post in the Union of Students a candidate should inform and consult the appropriate departmental, Joint School or Graduate School Chair (or Chairs) and his/her Personal Tutor.

(2)    A student elected to a sabbatical office in the Union of Students must apply to the Senate for leave of absence from their course of studies. All such applicants for leave of absence shall be full-time students registered for a course leading to a qualification of the University.

(3)    A student shall not be granted leave of absence on more than three separate occasions, and in not more than two consecutive years.

(4)    In the case of a final year student elected to hold a sabbatical office in the following year the Senate shall consider at its final meeting in the Summer term the conferment on him/her of registered student status for the period of his/her tenure of office on the understanding that the Sabbatical Officer concerned will follow the same registration procedure as other students of the University and will be subject to the University Charter, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations in precisely the same way as other registered students of the University. The Senate shall normally confer registered student status on final year students elected to hold a sabbatical office in the Union of Students. A student shall be granted registered student status on not more than two occasions.

(5)    A student whose registration is terminated by the University after he/she has been elected to a sabbatical post shall not be permitted to take up or continue in that or any other sabbatical office.
