Revisions to Regulations 28, 29 and 34

At its meeting held on 20 October 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 28 Regulation Covering Intellectual Property Rights be confirmed.

Rationale: To better articulate the regulation to ensure institutional compliance with advice from the Consumer and Markets Authority on the interpretation of consumer protection law.

At its meeting held on 20 October 2016, the University Council resolved that the revised University Regulation 29 Freedom of Speech be confirmed.

Rationale: To better articulate the University's approach and to demonstrate its commitment to freedom of speech. Prevent agenda (catalyst for proposal), previously considered by Senate 27/1/16.

At its meeting held on 20 October 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 34 Regulation for the Determination of Fitness to Practise be confirmed.

Rationale: To bring the regulation in line with proposed changes to the constitution of the Fitness to Practise committee within the Medical School.

Revisions to Regulations 8, 23 and 34

At its meeting held on 13 July 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 8.1 Regulations for the Degree of BA (and for the Degrees of BSc and LLB Awarded on the Recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences) be confirmed.

Rationale: To reflect the introduction of the BASc in Global Sustainable Development.

At its meeting held on 13 July 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 8.10 Regulations for the Degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and for the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) be confirmed.

Rationale: To replace two versions with a single revised regulation, applicable to all students regardless of their year of study.

At its meeting held on 13 July 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 23 Student Disciplinary Offences be confirmed.

Rationale: To encompass the role of Academic Vice-President with regard to to membership of the Discipline Committee.

At its meeting held on 13 July 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 34 Regulation for the Determination of Fitness to Practise be confirmed.

Rationale: To address requirements of the relevant professional and statutory regulatory bodies and reflect local departmental practice.

Revisions to Regulations 10 and 31

At its meeting held on 18 May 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 10.1 Regulations for Examiners be confirmed.

Rationale: To bring the Regulation in line with the Data Retention Policy and allow for relevant material to be retained for one year after a Completion of Procedures letter is issued in all cases where a student, successful or otherwise, might choose to escalate a complaint to the OIA. To extend the guidance on retention of examination scripts explicitly to coursework contributing to the final course mark.

At its meeting held on 18 May 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 31 Regulations Governing the use of University Computing Facilities be confirmed.

Rationale: A response to the University's Prevent duty.

Revisions to Regulations 11 and 37

At its meeting held on 10 – 11 February 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 11 Procedure to be adopted in the Event of Suspected Cheating in a University Test be confirmed.

Rationale: To allow Chairs of UG Studies Cttees to sit on Investigating Committees that consider students within their own faculty - to enable the responsibility for chairing ICSs to be more equitably distributed between all four Chairs.

At its meeting held on 10 – 11 February 2016, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 37 Regulations Governing Taught Postgraduate Courses be confirmed.

Rationale: To allow Boards of Examiners the authority to agree extensions in excess of six monhts based solely on academic judgement.

Revisions to Regulations 2, 5, 8 and 9

At its meeting held on 25 November 2015, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 2.3 Regulations Governing the Election of Representatives of the Assembly to Membership of the Senate be confirmed.

Rationale: To modernise voting mechanisms.

At its meeting held on 25 November 2015, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 5 Grant of Study Leave, Leave of Absence, and Leave to Accept a Research Award be confirmed.

Rationale: Following the Study Leave Committee being renamed the Academic Leave Committee, further review of Regulation 5 has been undertaken to ensure its continuing fitness for purpose and a range of changes proposed.

At its meeting held on 25 November 2015, the University Council resolved that proposed amendments to University Regulation 8 Regulations for First Degrees be confirmed.

Rationale: To reflect the governance of progression from the Foundation Year to the first year of the two new variant degrees in WBS.
