Recent Changes to the University Calendar
Revisions to Ordinance 11
On 12 February 2025 the Council approved with immediate effect revisions to Ordinance 11: Academic Employment, reflecting updates to the composition of Senate after the Academic Governance Review and the appointment process for, and role of the Chair of the Academic Freedom Review Committee.
Revisions to Ordinance 7 and deletion of Regulation 30
On 12 February 2025 the Council approved with immediate effect revisions to Ordinance 7: Academic Bodies to reflect changes to the process for the appointment of Academic Heads of Department and reporting lines of the Committee on the Appointment of Heads of Department, as discussed and recommended by Senate on 29 January 2025. The Senate also approved the deletion of Regulation 30: Procedure for appointment of Heads of Joint Schools in the Faculties of Arts & Social Sciences, as this was now outdated and superseded by updates to Ordinance 7.
Revisions to Ordinances 4 and 13
On 28 November 2024, the Chair of Council approved with immediate effect on behalf of the Council amendments to Ordinance 4.4 Powers of the Council (and therefore the Terms of Reference of Council) and Ordinance 13: Custody and Use of the Seal to add the Secretary to Council and the Group Finance Director or the Finance Director, in addition to members of Council, to the list of persons authorised by Council to authenticate the Seal.
Revisions to Ordinances 3, 4 and 6
On 9 October 2024 the Council confirmed, on the recommendation of Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Senate, minor changes to Ordinances 3: Officers of the University, 4: The Council and 6: The Assembly following recommendations made as part of the recent Council Effectiveness Review, with immediate effect.
Revisions to Ordinance 8
On 22 May 2024 the Council confirmed, on the recommendation of the Senate, revisions to Ordinance 8 to reflect the establishment of non-academic posthumous awards (Institutional Bachelors Award, Institutional Integrated Masters Award, and Institutional Masters Award) with immediate effect.
