(1) The Committee is required, under Regulation 4 (for the Annual Review by the Academic Staff Committee of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, Associate Professors (Readers), Teaching Fellows, Senior Teaching Fellows and Principal Teaching Fellows and Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows and Principal Research Fellows) to "conduct a review of academic staff (in all grades), teaching staff (in the grades of Teaching Fellow, Senior Teaching Fellow and Principal Teaching Fellow) and research staff (in the grades of Research Fellow, Senior Research Fellow and Principal Research Fellow)".
(2) To consider recommendations for:
(i) confirmation of the appointment of academic staff to Associate Professor on satisfactory completion of the period of probation;
(ii) promotion to Professorship;
(iii) promotion to Professorial Fellowship;
(iv) promotion to Associate Professor (Reader);
(v) promotion to Senior Teaching Fellow;
(vi) promotion to Principal Teaching Fellow;
(vii) promotion to Senior Research Fellow;
(viii) promotion to Principal Research Fellow;
(3) To consider from time to time specific issues concerned with the employment of academic and research staff;
(4) To produce a report to the Senate of decisions taken by the Committee, and to make recommendations to the Senate as appropriate.

Papers for consideration by the Academic Staff Committee should be submitted to the Assistant Secretary two weeks in advance of the meeting at which they are to be considered.
